Environmental Driller Assistant

S&ME is looking for an eager and dependable full-time Environmental Driller Assistant to join our Environmental team in Pell City, Alabama.

As an Environmental Driller Assistant, you will support field operations on environmental and geotechnical drilling projects throughout Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. Based in the Logan Martin Geological Building in Vincent, Alabama, this role involves extensive travel, hands-on work, and a 10-hour, 4-day workweek (Monday through Thursday).

Your Day-to-Day:

You'll assist with equipment operation, sample collection, site remediation, and ground modification tasks while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.

• Operate and Maintain Equipment: Use and care for drilling rigs, concrete cutting tools, grouting systems, and chemical injection equipment on various job sites.
• Assist Lead Driller: Help with remediation services and collect soil, rock, and groundwater samples to support project goals.
• Drive and Maintain Gear: Transport equipment to sites, perform routine maintenance, and operate both small and heavy machinery.
• Perform Site Repairs: Support concrete and foundation repairs and assist with ground modification efforts to stabilize site conditions.
• Follow Safety Protocols: Wear required PPE, including steel-toed boots and high-visibility gear, and occasionally use respirators and protective suits.

What You Bring:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum of one (1) year of construction or drilling experience
• Valid driver's license
• Valid CDL license, a plus
• Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
• Familiar with the safe operation of a Bobcat Skid Steer Loader, a plus

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as:

• Working the majority of the time outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially long periods
• Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
• Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
