Consistently ranked in the top 100 of ENR's Top 500 Design Firms, our markets are diverse and include transportation, energy, water/wastewater, commercial development, industry, healthcare, education and government. We recruit top talent and are currently seeking a PSM/Safety Engineer to join our team in Decatur, Alabama.

 

 

The position is for a full-time, entry level professional and requires a degree in Chemical Engineering.  Another technical degree such as physics or chemistry may be acceptable with related experience in the chemical industry. The successful candidate will utilize their knowledge and skills working alongside process engineers to assist clients with identifying process safety hazards and developing/implementing controls.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering;
  • Prior experience with PSM/Safety in the Chemical Industry is considered a plus;
  • The ability to analyze the technical aspects of chemical process hazards such as explosions, fires, overpressure scenarios, corrosion, dispersion of chemicals in a leak scenario, etc.; 
  • The ability to become familiar with process safety methods published by organizations such as AICHE's Center for Chemical Process Safety; 
  • The ability to learn the specific hazards of chemicals used by specific Clients in their operations and how to control them;
  • The ability to analyze the technical aspects of hazards other than chemicals such as motion, radiation, electrocution/shock, gravity/slip/trip/fall, heat/cold, biological, and pressure;
  • The ability to develop and implement process modifications through all steps including concept, approval of funds, detailed design, multiple bid analysis, construction, and start-up;
  • The ability to learn and comply with government regulatory requirements;
  • The ability to use published recommended practices, codes, and guidelines to help control hazards.

 

 

Qualified candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong work ethic, possess the ability to work as a team player, and the ability to work across Japanese-American cultural lines. 

 

 

This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience. Successful candidate must meet requirements of the company's Fleet Management Program, Substance Policy and Reference check program.
