S&ME is an employee-owned engineering firm that provides civil, geotechnical, environmental, planning, landscape architecture, survey and construction services. Consistently ranked in the top 100 of ENR's Top 500 Design Firms, our markets are diverse and include transportation, energy, water/wastewater, commercial development, industry, healthcare, education and government.



We recruit top talent and are currently seeking an experienced Business Developer for our Energy Business Unit to join our team to be based out of one of our Knoxville, Chattanooga, or greater Atlanta area locations.  



Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: establishing and maintaining client relationships, promoting company image, assisting in proposal preparation, developing and executing strategic marketing plans and actively participating in professional organizations and societies.  Regular travel required as this individual will be meeting with energy clients and in conjunction with our marketing and technical staff, represent S&ME at trade shows, conferences and association meetings. Individual is responsible for developing affiliations with other professional firms and business organizations to generate new business in the Southeast region.



The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in researching, prospecting and scheduling face-to-face meetings with key decision makers and influencers within electric, power generation, gas, nuclear, renewables and/or coal ash markets, resulting in qualified opportunities. Current involvement and visibility with national power or utility companies, area professional organizations, industry associations, civic groups and/or local associations for economic and business growth is a plus.




  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, marketing, construction, business, or related professional degree;
  • 8+ years of technical and/or business development experience within the Energy and Power industry required;
  • Outgoing personality and excellent social skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills;
  • Ability to work in a team environment with excellent motivational skills;
  • Ability to travel, including personnel vehicle for use during company business. 



This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience. Successful candidate must meet requirements of the company's Fleet Management Program, Substance Policy and Reference check program.
