The position will play a key role in building a nationally recognized Transportation Design program and will provide leadership and direct management of employees and projects within the S&ME's footprint. Responsibilities include yearly business planning; business development; quality; resource management; safety; human resources; risk management; and working with the Transportation Business Unit Director to develop and implement a strategic plan for the Area, and a vision for the Business Unit.


Typical responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a key leader in driving the strategic growth of S&ME's Transportation Design efforts;
  • Manage the technical, financial, and client relationship aspects of regionally and nationally significant projects;
  • Develop a key strategic staffing plan and embody the characteristics of a team-oriented leader; responsible for hiring, coaching and developing a Transportation Design team;
  • Provide exemplary client relations and demonstrate extraordinary responsiveness to transportation clients;
  • Collaborate with S&ME's Business Development group to guide the local growth plan, ensuring consistency in market strategy, client outreach and promotion of S&ME services.



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related;
  • A minimum of 20 years of experience in transportation design, including 10 years' experience in a supervisory or management capacity;
  • Professional Engineer license in NC, SC, TN, and GA preferred; or the ability to obtain licensure within three (3) months of hire. Willingness to obtain licensure in other states as needed;
  • Experience coaching and developing staff in the technical elements of transportation design;
  • Experience with Microstation, Civil 3D, InRoads, Geopack and OpenRoads preferred.


This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience. Successful candidate must meet requirements of the company's Fleet Management Program, Substance Policy and Reference check program.
