S&ME is currently seeking a full-time GIS Analyst for our Chattanooga, Tennessee location. Qualified candidates will have experience in field data collection workflows, database design, data analysis, web, and traditional map production. Recent experience performing the aforementioned tasks for utility systems such as water, wastewater, and stormwater is preferred.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and execute field data collection and/or site observations using standardized procedures, exercising judgment as to the clarity, completeness or accuracy of the data. Under general supervision of a senior reviewer, makes changes to the scope of work deemed necessary on the basis of preliminary field data;
  • Perform or supervise field assignments that require judgment and experience such as manhole inspections, oversight of closed circuit television inspections of sanitary and storm sewers, erosion control and sedimentation control installations, site investigations, construction quality assurance reviews and support of surveying services with minimal supervision;
  • Preparing field data collection forms for the assessment of infrastructure assets Coordinate with project managers and field crews to develop and refine data collection workflows;
  • Perform quality control analysis on a variety of GIS datasets to ensure spatial and attribute data integrity;
  • Generate web maps, dashboards, and mobile data collection maps for a variety of project tasks;
  • Build, manipulate, edit, and refine geometric networks for utility systems;
  • Understand mapping grade and survey grade GPS systems, and how to integrate new GPS data into existing datasets;
  • Work with a team to develop and implement new applications and workflows, and design databases, maps, data input forms, and other processes to refine the applications;
  • Work closely with project team to develop improved workflows to enhance quality, consistency, and productivity. Utilize models and/or python scripting to automate processes when possible.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Land Surveying, GIS or related field is required;
  • 2-10 years of relevant experience in a related field is preferred;
  • GISP certification, or working towards the certification is preferred;
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions;
  • Willingness to travel as needed;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Personable and able to communicate with people at all levels;
  • Excellent computer skills including ArcGIS, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Office software with the ability to learn commercial software applications;
  • Experience using AutoCAD, Civil3D, and Hydraulic Modeling Software, is preferred;
  • Basic use of programming languages such as Python, Arcade, Visual Basic, JSON, and Java are preferred;
  • General working knowledge of computer networking is preferred, but not necessary;
  • Must be a self-starter, resourceful, with the ability to work independently on multiple projects with support and guidance of senior staff;
  • Commitment to deadlines and budgets with a positive attitude and excellent work ethic.
