Position: Geotechnical Engineer/Project Manager

S&ME, Inc., a leading engineering, design, environmental sciences, and construction services firm that responds to their clients with innovative, sustainable solutions is seeking a full-time, Geotechnical Engineer/Project Manager for our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania location.


This individual will serve as project manager for all aspects of geotechnical exploration and design. Responsibilities will include coordination and performance of field geotechnical testing and construction observation, coordination of laboratory testing, performance of geotechnical engineering analyses, and preparation of geotechnical engineering reports and design documents. Additional responsibilities may include business development, client management, technical QA of reports/documents, and mentoring/supervision of staff.


The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience with the local oil/gas market, as well as the desire and ability to grow our geotechnical services in other markets. Qualified candidates must have proficient verbal and written communication skills, a strong work ethic, and possess the ability to work as a team player.



  • BS in Civil Engineering required, MS with concentration in geotechnical engineering preferred;
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania;
  • A minimum of 8 years of geotechnical engineering work experience, PennDOT or PA Turnpike project experience is a plus;
  • Experience with the local oil/gas market;
  • Working knowledge of CADD programs, and Microstation experience is a plus;
  • Working knowledge of horizontal directional drilling;
  • Working knowledge of earth slide remediation methods;
  • Consulting experience preferred;
  • Ability to execute technical aspects of a wide range of projects including highway, power, heavy industrial, commercial, and retail projects.


This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience. Successful candidate must meet requirements of the company's Fleet Management Program, Substance Policy and Reference check program.
