Position: Environmental & Industrial Hygiene Technician

S&ME, Inc., a leading design, engineering, environmental and multi-disciplined professional services firm that responds to their clients with innovative, sustainable solutions, is seeking a full-time Environmental and/or Industrial Hygiene Technician for our Tri-Cities locations.


The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Industrial Hygiene Professionals, Licensed Engineers, Geologists and Registered Scientists. The individual will primarily be responsible for conducting field activities including but not limited to field assessments for asbestos, lead paint, mold, and indoor air quality, and personal and area monitoring for airborne contaminants.   Office tasks will include preparing assessment reports, data entry, and maintenance of equipment. A significant portion of the individual's time will be spent in the field in all weather conditions and can be physically demanding. In addition, field work may be required during non-business hours, on weekends and holidays. The successful candidate must be able to follow instructions from supervisors and will be expected to work with minimal direction after completing initial training.

  • High School Diploma/GED and 2+ years of environmental-related field experience; or Associate's degree or higher in environmental related field;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Must be a self-starter, resourceful, with the ability to work independently on multiple projects with support and guidance of senior staff;
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and integrity;
  • Commitment to deadlines, budgets and teamwork with a positive attitude and excellent work ethic;
  • OSHA 1910.120 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training Preferred;
  • Tennessee Asbestos Project Monitor Certification Preferred;
  • Tennessee Asbestos Inspector Certification Preferred; and
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and EXCEL.

This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience. Successful candidate must meet requirements of the company's Fleet Management Program, Substance Policy and Reference check program.
