Position: Geotechnical Field Engineer

S&ME, Inc. is a leading design, engineering, environmental, and multi-disciplined professional services firm that responds to our clients with innovative and sustainable solutions. We are seeking a full-time Geotechnical Field Engineer to be based in either our Cincinnati, Ohio or Lexington, Kentucky location.

 

Position responsibilities include work around coal combustion residual (CCR) facilities including providing construction oversight on behalf of the Owner. Duties include coordination with contractors and owners, maintaining project records and documentation, coordination of field explorations, field logging of soil samples, performing engineering calculations/design, preparation of proposals and reports, and project and client support.  This position will initially be based at a northern Kentucky power plant providing oversight on a CCR landfill construction project.  The project duration is for one year.  This position will require travel and to be actively involved on projects sites.  Position will work under the supervision of a Project Manager and/or a Licensed Engineer.  Qualified candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a strong work ethic, and possess the ability to work as a team player.  This position will have the opportunity to advance beyond Field Engineering.

 

Qualifications/Minimum Requirements:

  • BS (MS preferred) in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering;
  • Engineering Intern certification or Professional Engineer license is preferred;
  • 0 6 years of professional experience;
  • Strong working knowledge of construction plans and specifications;
  • Experience with coal combustion residual (CCR) landfills and ash ponds;
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, with the ability to learn commercial software applications;
  • Overnight, out-of-town travel and the ability to work outside normal business hours;
  • Majority of work to be at remote site(s), outdoors in varying weather conditions;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Routine lifting: 40 to 50 lbs.
